Great question!

Music is around no matter where I go. Even at work. Music plays a big role in my work speed. When I clean around the house, I listen to Wade O Radio or Pandora.com. Something upbeat that makes me think.

When I drive, I'm usually playing new music, or if I don't have anything new, I'm bumpin that 1-1-Six!

I was in a bad mood earlier today so I threw on some chill music like Radiohead. Switched my tude quickly.

I work at Starbucks so I hear music even if I don't want to. Depending on the time of day I prefer different playlists. Definitely no Bob Marley @ 5am - that just doesn't work for some reason. The best kind of music for me at work is something Ambient like Nightmares on Wax or Husky Rescue. Something melodic with tons of instrumentation and a beat.

Music has a great power over people and I think it's like friends. Peer pressure. Influence. We need to surround ourselves with positivity. Friends and Music.

For me it depends on what type of time frame im on. If it's something leisurely im working on that doesnt necessarily have to be done right away, i like to listen to relaxing, calm, meditative type music. One band ive come across lately (thanks to noah at work) is one called "Over the Rhine". He qualifies them as bluegrass...and i just find them extremely relaxing. However, when im on a tight deadline...i really have to find some hype music (anything from Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon) or maybe some oldschool Bone Thugs -n- Harmony or DMX (grrrr, arf arf).

I listen to music based more upon my mood and workload rather than the individual project. During the middle of the day when I have phone calls, emails and IM's non-stop i like something calming that serves more as background music. Coldplay, Depeche Mode are favorites to get work done to, maybe a movie soundtrack score or r&b too. When things are calmer, and I'm working on an individual project, either designing or developing, I like something heavier, usually hip hop. I like to put on CDs I'm really into, or something new that i want to give a good listen. I find I can really get into the music and the work will just finish itself. It doesn't matter if its a layout for a nursing home or a hip hop site, the music remains the same. Chamillionaire while designing a layout for Alzheimer's disease, or Linkin Park while developing a hip hop store... sure! It doesn't matter to me. If it puts me in the right zone then the work will come out right, thats what's important to me.
